"This painting is a part of my overall 'attack on traditional still life' oeuvre, where I'm exploring ways to contemporize still lifes by having contemporary Pop Culture icons literally attack traditional still life set-ups. In this one, Popeye is about to save Betty Boop from a pair of blue crabs, which represent the seafood that has been featured in still lifes for centuries." -Pat Hobaugh
